Over the past 3 years, I’ve posted many links to organizations and websites so you could track down answers and help. But I’ve never collected those resources in one place.
These are the 5 sites you should visit to get help and stay current on what’s going on in Washington D.C. that might be able to help you.
- Making Home Affordable
This is the official home page for the Making Home Affordable programs. You can find out if you qualify, find out if your lender is participating, and keep up with the latest news from the program. - National Consumer Law Center
Reports and information you can trust on the legal aspects of foreclosure and mediation. Site includes their evaluations…updated regularly…about whether state and local foreclosure relief
programs will help you. - HUD’s Avoiding Foreclosure Center
Tons of information on government programs, counseling, evaluating your situation and more. I know it’s a government site, but it’s got so much info straight from the horse’s mouth.
- American Foreclosure Specialists
This is a foreclosure mediation firm. We’re not connected to them and are not recommending their services, but their web site is extremely helpful. - HousingWire’s Default and Servicing Section
All the top news from a source you can trust. And you don’t have to sign up to read the articles.
And if you have some recommendations, please add them in a comment so others can benefit.

we all need to face the facts. if your mortgage co does not want to modify your loan no one can do anything to make them. take me for instance. i have been on a forbearance with ocwen for 4 1/2 years and even tho i have made on time payments i am still charged late fees of over $50 a month and add title report fee $900 property valuation fee $765 foreclosure fee $1.103 and a few other charges oh lets not forget my taxes have gone up witch they just put another $500.00 a month to my mortgage. because all the time i have been on a forbearance they never increased my escrow they waited till it got so high that i wont be able to make my payments. so don’t give people false hope because i used the the services and it still wont help. please people stay clear of ocwen. you will lose
