Statistics don’t matter…
You’ve probably seen the statistic released yesterday by RealtyTrac that says foreclosure filings were up 81% in 2008 vs 2007. The article went on to say that if you translate that into numbers of houses affected, 1 in every 54 homes in the country had received at least one foreclosure notice in 2008. It should go without saying that this is a bad situation…and it is because it affects a lot of families.
You probably haven’t seen the next statistic unless you’re in the Dallas area (or follow foreclosure-related news like I do). According to the Dallas Morning News, Dallas-Fort Worth foreclosure filings in December were 8% lower than in December 2007.
I would argue that both of these figures are irrelevant to you, though (even if you live in the Dallas area).
Why?
Well it’s not because of some statistical anomaly or fancy mathematical wizardry. It’s because they measure national or regional figures. What truly matters to you is not how many houses around you are in foreclosure, but whether your home is in foreclosure. Do you truly care how many homeowners in your city successfully obtained workouts from their lenders or whether you can?
Sure…you care about your neighbor or your friend at work or the family at church and what happens to them. But what keeps you awake at night is what’s going to happen to your home and to your family.
So what are you to do?
First…turn off the news. Do you really need the constant reminder of how bad things are? Does listening to the news build you up or tear you down?
Second…reach out for help. You’ve gone part of the way by searching the Internet or signing up for my list, but you have to keep looking and pursuing the information. If you want more info on Fast Track Loan Modifications, check out my teleconference with Brent Lane or my articles on this new program.
Third…take action. Someone once said, “the truth will set you free.” Well, that’s only partially true. The truth won’t do anything if you don’t take action. If you need to write a hardship letter, do it. If you need to call your lender, do it (our free Foreclosure Contact Tracker will help). You care about your home more than anyone else does, so take action today.
